Russia is ‘missionary territory

October 31, 2013 0 comments

Russia is ‘missionary territory,’” Poland’s foreign minister, Radoslaw Sikorski, said in a personal interview, in reference to his country’s desire to extend the European zone of stability, prosperity, and freedom farther East through democracy assistance.’

Certainly, Ukraine should be considered even greater ‘missionary territory’, as its western regions (Galicia, Bukovina and Zakarpattya) have all been integral parts of European political institutions for several centuries in the past: The Polish-Lithanian Commonwealth and the Habsburg Empire. It’s encouraging to see Poland as such a stalwart supporter of Ukraine’s current bid for an AA within the EU.
